What if...?

Sometimes I wonder,
"What if I had gone to a different school?" or
"What if I had chosen a different course for my degree after finishing my matriculation?" or
"What if I didn't listen to my mother & insist on doing what I want?"

*sigh*

I'm currently working on writing an article for a client. While surfing the net for info, I couldn't help but think  "Thank you, ALLAH for this gift of writing". At least I do have a marketable skill that I can use to support my family. I wonder if my life would've been different if I had taken an English language-related course instead of pursuing a Chem. Eng. course.

Well, like they say, "Don't cry over spilled milk".

Back to writing......

p/s: writing at this hour does not suit me...I'm feeling sleepy already *yawn*

  1. couldn't agree more... ramai budak2 pandai, talented in other field in 1995 to 2000 but ended up taking technical course, especially engineering. time tu the perception was that taking tech/eng course is of higher class than taking non-tech. sigh...

  2. Ok.. crossing my fingers that no one says I'm indulging you in this..

Ohhh.. how true! Can really relate to this..

I wish I had insisted on taking up teaching =( I'm happiest when I'm surrounded by my students, eventhough there are times they drive me up the wall. I understand why you say "Don't cry over spilled milk" but at the same time, it does make you wonder kan.. and can't help feeling like it was a bad decision on your side to follow other peoples dreams, and not your own.

  3. [anon] - in my case, i got into engineering because my grades weren't enough to qualify me into medicine (original target) & since I did put down chem. eng. as my 2nd choice, that's how i ended up kat transkrian, then nibong tebal..

ayu - ahahahaha...mcm paham ja that thing you're refering to..masa nak hantaq borang UPU tu kan, i was considering on taking veterinary (can you believe that?? hahah)but my mom kata nnt takdak keja, then i thought about working in a library but didn't know what course to take for it..& since my mom kept pushing me to take up medicine + masa tu arwah paklang (Soraya's dad) ble tlg, tu yg landed in USM..

ironically, i did make it through the interview for medic, siap dapat join tour ke USM Kubang Kerian lg, i was sooo excited masa tu tp in hindsight, alhamdulillah gak la tak dpt medic coz i certainly couldn't cope with the pressure of studying all the time + the stress of being an actual Dr. (tu pun kalau I make it through the whole 4 years la kan hahah)

  5. i pun...kadang-kadang regret sebab tak ikut minat masa pilih kos...i betul2 nak jadi vet tapi biasalah...orang tua kata nanti kena pegang babun. minat kedua ialah art & design. lagi teruk dapat bantahah keluarga..pastu cam biasa suh jadi doc. sampai harini asyik tanya what if...if only... tapi kalau tak ikut haluan sekarang, tak jumpalah kawan-kawan, tak jumpa the love of my life...adakah laluan hidup memang sudah ditulis oleh yang Maha Esa?

  6. Mencelah sikit... Our parents and sewaktu dengannya mmg nampak kerjaya engineer, doctor je yg best. But things change eventually, and obviously most of the people making money these days are not from our clans. Some people enjoy doing things they really like while making good income. i am ok when my daughter says she wants to be a hairsylist, but will definitely support if she wants to be a Doctor, an engineer etc

    1. i agree..in fact, mana tau kan maybe nnt when the time comes for my kids to make their career choices, I pulak yg sibuk2 nak interfere & veto their choices hahah..

I have to say I am glad on your daughter's behalf for your support. i'm sure she appreciates it too.
